Starcraft 2 Race and Unit Guide
“Tempered by hardship and strife, the resourceful terrans have proven a formidable match even for the technologically advanced protoss or the ravenous zerg.”
Terrans are the humans of Starcraft 2. Since they do not have the advanced technology of the Protoss or the pure fighting and killing ability of the Zerg, their military forces have focuses on adaptability and flexibility with a mix of different types of units. Terrans rely on solid armor, lots of firepower, and good defense. Terrans have terrific bunkers and siege tanks, which also help with defense. The Terran SCV unit is one of the most flexible units in the game, and should not be underestimated.
“Led by the cunning Queen of Blades, the Zerg are set to unleash their alien horrors on the galaxy, threatening to consume all who stand in their way.”
The Zerg have a swarm mentality – they are all controlled by the Overmind of the Queen of Blades. After the protoss destroyed the Overmind, the Queen of Blades eventually came into power and now controls the Swarm.
The Zerg are composed of many different species that were integrated into the swarm through centuries of conflict. The Zerg do not use technology or research to create their weapons, defense, or ships. They biologically adapt and mutate to accomodate the needs of the Swarm. Zerg do not have particularly powerful units, but what they lose in individual strength they make up in quantity.
“For thousands of years, the ancient and mysterious protoss have used their alien technology and psionic power to maintain order and peace in their part of the galaxy.”
Protoss have the most advanced technology in Starcraft 2, and in addition have powerful psionic abilities. The Protoss individually are extremely powerful, but can be overcome by numbers – particularly the enormous number and quickly reproducing Zerg units. One of the greatest and most overlooked strengths of the Protoss is the strenght of their ships – which hold enormous attack power. The Protoss also have the best early spying unit – the Probe – which can be used to harrass and spy on their enemies.
